For You Always (A short Story) by C.R. Young

Firstly, I want to apologise for the long interval between my last post and this one. Now that I am in Jamaica on this extended vacation I no longer have unlimited access to a laptop. Needless to say, I have finally found a temporary solution to this issue which will allow me to update more frequently for the duration of my stay. With that being said let us get the main post.

As many of you may know... or not, my biggest passion in life other than children, sewing and reborns, is writing. I aspire to one day be an author. Currently, I am working on two books, one to be published by the end of the year and the other sometime between 2019 and 2021. Today I want to share with you all a short story that I had concocted as an entry to a short story competition a few years ago. I often consider developing the story and making it into a full novel but with all the ideas I already have set out to make into novels, I figured it would be best to leave this story as is. Maybe in the distant future, I will change my mind, but for now, here it is.

For You Always A short story by C.R. Young

Royale Arlington looked at the weathered book in her hands and felt stressed. She walked over to the window and reflected on her cosy surroundings. She had always loved beautiful Treating with its colourful open fields. The scenery was one that never failed to calm her anxiety. Not anymore. She thought to herself. Glancing out at the first signs of snow she sighed. Could she really do this? Could she leave Treating, the only home she has ever known, to start afresh and move on from all the heartache and horrors she faced here? Royale dropped her head resting her hand on her barely protruding stomach, the constant reminder of what had happened. Raising her head once again to look out the window she saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of Matthias Herrera.

Matthias was a loving writer with shoulder-length blond hair, green eyes and full pink lips. He was tall standing at six feet three inches with a toned muscular body to match. He was the epitome of male and Royale's best friend. He has always been there for her even when her parents had passed away when she was only six years old. Matthias had held her through her nightmares and fears for ten years after that. He had left to travel the world when she was sixteen and he nineteen and came back a year ago, three years after he had left. Royale had always had a crush on Matthias but had never deluded herself into thinking he would one day feel the same way. He was after all three years older than her. Royale gulped. She glanced at her own reflection. Standing at a mere five feet seven inches she was an average, gentle, book fanatic with brunette hair, large blue eyes and small plump red lips. Her friends saw her as what she was--a broken angel.

Royale watched as Matthias sauntered towards her small house with a determined expression. She had no idea what he was up to now. He never visits here this late. As Royale stepped outside and Matthias came closer, she could see the loose smile on his face. She frowned in confusion.

"Matty, it's five minutes to the stroke of midnight! Whatever are you doing out here so late?"

Matty is the name Royale had chosen to call Matthias all his life though it started out because of her inability to pronounce his full name at age two.

"I needed to see you."

Matthias murmured as he stopped in front of her. Royale found herself frowning once again. What could be so important that he couldn't wait until the morning, was the thought that crossed her mind? Matthias gazed down at Royale with so much affection that it made Royale squirm uncomfortably. She has never been stared at so intensely in all her life especially not by Matthias, the one she has had a longing for, for so long.

"Matt, what is it?"

She questioned in an attempt to get out of this intense situation. Matthias pulled her close, his strong muscular arms encircling her and trapping her against his chiselled chest. He said, in hushed tones,

"I love you and I want you to stay."

Royale was taken aback. She looked up at Matt not believing her ears. Did he just say...Then she remembered her situation. Shaking her head she looked away.

" I can't stay and I can't...no... I won't let you be burdened with my shame."

Royale retorted bitterly before looking back at Matthias. They looked at each other with concerned feelings.

"Ale, you could never be a burden to me. Please, just let me be there for you. I love you. I've always loved you and I don't want you to have to go through this alone."

Tears began to form in her eyes as she listened to Matthias' declaration of love for her. Nevertheless, she didn't want him to have to bear the brunt of this decision he wanted to make. How could she? She knew what the people around here were like. The judgmental stares, the hushed whispers, the scorn. How could she ever bring the only man she has ever loved down with her?

" I don't care what anyone will say about me,l all I care about is you and making you happy. That's all I've ever cared about. We could be a family, me, you and the baby. I don't care that it's not mine. I'll treat the baby as if he or she were my own. We won't have to bring up the circumstances of its conception if you don't want to. I love you just the same and you have nothing to be ashamed of. This wasn't your fault."

Royale regarded Matthias' brown eyes and saw the truth, love and adoration all swirling around the depths of his luminous green eyes. He really did want to be in her life as a lover, maybe even a husband, despite the dreadful circumstances. Royale looked down contemplating Matthias' words. She loved him. Truly she did. She was sure he loved her too. Without another thought, she raised her head and lifted her lips to his before engaging in the most passionate kiss of her life. Pulling away breathlessly she smiled up at Matthias.

"Will you stay?" Matthias questioned in a pleading voice.

"For you. Always." Royale whispered.

What did you think? Should I leave it as is or should I develop the story further? Please leave a comment and/or feedback below, I would love to hear from you all.
