New upcoming Dancehall artist: Kawai

Dancehall What is Dancehall? As a Jamaican born, dancehall has always been a part of my cultural identity. It is played on buses, on the streets, at parties and even in the homes and so many other venues. This being said not everyone may know what this form of music is. Dancehall is one of the most popular music forms in Jamaica. It is said to have begun in the late 1970s and is a big influence on different genres of music around the world. With the birth of dancehall, there was bound to be a rise in dancehall artists. Over the years we have seen a plethora of wonderful artists who have inspired the youth of today to aspire towards a musical career.

Recently, new artist Kawai has taken the streets by storm. His new single "Be My Baby" has gone global. From the United States to Australia "Be My Baby" is being played across many avenues.

Who is Kawai?

Kawai is a new artist in the dancehall field; though he started a few years back his new song "Be My Baby" seems to be a hit not only within the Caribbean but also in Canada, The United States and the United Kingdom. It can be heard playing on radio channels in the Cayman Islands. Kawai has caught the attention of local artists such as I-Octane who has mentioned him in a shoutout video early this year. With his new single we can only hope his musical talents will be recognized and will encourage him to keep working on his musical endeavours.

Early Life Kawai was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica on February 10, 2001, to parents Christopher and Cecille Young. He was given the name Krishna Adam Young. Kawai grew up in a simple nuclear family. He went to school and was involved in numerous co-curricular activities such as football and track and field to name a few. Kawai's keen interest in music was shown when, in Primary school, he became interested in playing the guitar.
